Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Band Director Academy (BDA) offers powerful insights into the teaching of jazz and emphasizes hands-on learning and techniques that can be immediately applied to the classroom. The four-day workshop includes classes, demo sessions with a student big band, jam sessions, topic discussions and a faculty concert. Whether you’re a music education student or a veteran teacher, BDA offers tips and techniques for a deeper understanding of, and passion for, teaching jazz. We hope to see you there! Full Scholarships Jazz at Lincoln Center's Band Director Academy is pleased to announce that we will again be partnering with SUNY Potsdam' Crane School of Music to offer graduate credit for participation. Both one- and two-credit options are available at the following costs: 1-credit: $370 plus $19.60 in fees for a total of $389.60 In order to receive credit, each participant will submit a typed, double-spaced paper (5 pages per credit) postmarked by July 30 that (1) briefly summarizes the content of the sessions attended and (2) describes how this content contributes to your professional development and informs your work as a music educator. We are conveniently located in Columbus Circle in midtown Manhattan, at Broadway at 60th Street. Getting Here The train is a great option for those travelling along the East Coast. Amtrak, NJ Transit and the Long Island Rail Road run through Penn Station. Grand Central Station offers service via Metro-North railroad. Both stations are conveniently connected to the NYC subway system. If you are planning to drive to New York, please visit nyc.bestparking.com for parking information. Getting Around New York You may also opt to take a a taxi in and around the city. Taxis in New York are metered fare. Or you can walk! It is easy to walk around midtown Manhattan and we are not far from attractions such as Times Square, Central Park and Lincoln Center. Hotel Information The cost of a room (single or double) is $189 per night plus tax. You will be asked for a group code, which is Band Director Academy. To secure a room at this special discounted price, you must reserve prior to the May 23, 2011 deadline.
