Jazz for Young People: Who is Tito Puente?

More than just a great bandleader and master percussionist, Tito Puente was the Latin jazz bandleader for over four decades, freely mixing jazz and Cuban music into a strong, spicy concoction. Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra bassist Carlos Henriquez—an alumni of Puente’s own orchestra-- and friends will demonstrate why Mr. Puente was called “El Rey de Salsa” and the “King of Mambo.” Featured guests include students from JALC’s Middle School Jazz Academy and a pair of Latin dancers.
